Hula Hooping in Red Deer
Recently, I was able to secure a location for hula hoop lessons and an open hula hoop session starting in January. You can imagine how excited I was to get this news. Thank you Jo Dumont and Jo Dumont Fitness Training! Now, by times I lead a pretty charmed life, so of course Tasha from Shaw Media TV Red Deer was trying to get in touch with me to do a piece on Hula Hooping. Of Course!!
So I sent out some emails and gathered some hoopers. On a cold Thursday morning we all arrived at JDFT and hooped for an hour while Tasha filmed and interviewed. It felt so great to be out hooping again. Admittedly, there were a lot of cobwebs I realized I had to dust off, but it felt great!!
Below is the final product.
If you are interested in hula hooping in January, visit the Red Deer Hula Hoopers page and join the mailing list where I send out all things related to Red Deer and hula hoops.
See you in Jan!

Shipping Hula Hoops to Customers
Who doesn’t like mail
? Who wouldn’t love to have a hula hoop shipped right to their doorstep? The photo you see is how we package our hoops. Because we are environmentally conscious, we do our absolute best to only use recycled material to ship the hoops. As you can see from the photo, I had some brown kraft paper left around from an old wrapping paper roll. My children wanted to colour it, the new owner of this hoop will have a lovely amateur piece of artwork to go along with their hoop. The other two hoops were wrapped in bubble wrap that my husband had employees save from his work. For me, it is the easiest to use.
We have looked at using boxes, but the unique shape of the hoop really makes it stand out when you simply wrap the actual hoop. Feel free to visit our Hula Hoop Store and have a hoop of your own delivered.

Slight Change to HulaHoopers.ca
If you have been to our site before, you are likely going to notice a few “minor” details. I put that in quotations, because although they are minor on the surface, a lot of hard work went into the changes. =)
I will 100% admit that I’m an internet geek. I love building websites and blogging, but when you are actually building a website that has a store… it comes with some endearing and some not so endearing qualities.
Slowly, I am learning my way around and basically trying to make the site better for the end user. But it is a process.
If you see anything that is glitchy or have a suggestion to improve an aspect of the site, please let me know. I would love your input to make this a more efficient place for you to visit.
As with all websites and blogs, they are rarely ever completed or finished, but my vision is becoming more of a reality. Sadly (or fortunately) I start work this week (teaching) so I will have less time to tinker, but still plenty of time for hula hooping and hula hoop making.
Happy Hula Hooping!

Hula Hoop Sale Tomorrow
Tomorrow I will be selling some hula hoops for a wonderfully discounted price of $30 a hoop at the Red Deer Market. These hula hoops made a cross province trip with me and got a bit dusty from being strapped to the back of the van. They are still beautiful and function perfectly, but I would not want to sell these hula hoops for full price.
If you are interested in purchasing one of these hula hoops on sale but cannot make it to the market today, leave a comment or send me an email and I will send you pictures of the hoops and send them to you. I will send these hoops via mail for a price of $40 (a $20 discount on the original price!).
This is a great opportunity to pick up a new size of hula hoop for a great price! =)

Hula Hooper on America’s Got Talent
At the Hula Hoop meet up today in Red Deer we got talking about the hula hooping girl that made it through to Las Vegas on America’s Got Talent. None of the people there had seen her skills, so I thought I would post her video here to save everyone the search.
Polina Volchek is absolutely stunning in this video! She has some crazy talent and flexibility!
WOW!
By the way, thanks to everyone that showed up today at the Hula Hoop Meet up! I’m hoping to have some pictures to post on the site soon. You guys are so much fun! =)

Kids Hula Hoops =)
I just finished making my son his own personal hula hoop. The funny thing about three year olds is that at times they know exactly what they want and other times they can take days to make a decision.
Both of my children have been allowed to choose the colours they want for their hula hoops. My five year old was able to decide very quickly. His hoop has been here for a couple months now. My three year old just finally decided.
What are the colours you ask? Flames, Sparkly purple and hot pink. =) Isn’t this the dream of all three year old boys? Oh gosh, it makes me giggle. But doesn’t he look really happy with his hoop?

Now Offering Lightweight Dance Hula Hoops
I’m proud to announce a new style of hula hoop to be added to my current heavier style hula hoops. The new hula hoop is smaller in diameter and is much lighter
than them. If you look at the picture to the left, you can see the new Light Weight Dance Hoop on the left and the Aerobic Hula Hoop on the right. There is a noticeable difference in the diameter of the tubing.I also wanted to share that another shipment of tape has arrived allowing for many more options. I will try and update the page that lists the options of colours I have. If there is something that you want and I do not have it, I will order it in and make you the hoop of your choice.
Below you will see that I now have tape that has flames, hearts, skull and crossbones, the C
anada Flag, the Breast Cancer pink ribbon, pink camouflage and green camouflage.I do custom hula hoops for $50 a piece, so feel free to email me with any design ideas you have and we can design you a personalized hula hoop. You can even specify the size and style of hula hoop. Visit my Hula Hoop Store for more information about them.
My last announcement today is that Play It Again Sports Red Deer will be carrying my hula hoops! Starting tomorrow, Monday, June 28th you will be able to find an assortment of hula hoops. Please stop in and have a look to see what is available there.
Happy Weekend!

New Hula Hoop Tutorials Added
It has been a crazy week. And I do mean crazy. I was in a nasty vehicle accident on Wednesday and I’m still off my hula hoop from it.
Doctor’s orders. That being said, it has given me an opportunity to update some of the tutorials on the site and new ones. The most recent hula hoop tutorials I have added are ankle hooping, back isolation and the pizza toss. Also, I added new videos to the Knee Hooping and One Should Hooping tutorials.
I really need to thank Luisa who has been sharing with me her favourite tutorials. Luisa is a student that lives in Portugal, but is pretty darn passionate about hula hooping and how it feeds the soul. =) She shares the vision I have with this site in providing the tutorials… It’s how she found the site. She is helping grow the library and for that I am grateful!!
Please, do the same if you come across any videos that were particularly useful and think others would benefit.
I can’t wait until I’m healed and can back into my hoop.
Until then, the new videos are feeding my soul and I’m thinking that back isolation looks pretty darn fun!By the way, if you are on twitter, I am at MaisieHoops.

The Online Hooping Community
How awesome is the online hooping community? Really?
This post is to thank all of those that inspired me to follow my hooping passion and create this website as well as start making hula hoops to sell to those that are where I was six years ago.
It was in January that I started looking for some hula hoop videos to begin expanding my repertoire of Hula Hoop tricks. During another lengthy session of Youtube watching I discovered Safire and consequently discovered her site HoopCity. I was immediately overwhelmed by both the information I found and the community that was housed there.
What I found was thousands of hula hoopers that visited one website for the sole purpose of discussing hula hooping and everything related (or not so related) to the art.
It was there that I quickly learned of other amazing hula hoopers and got to acquaint myself with their videos, styles and in some cases, teaching styles. I also realized we had a really wonderful community filled with people willing to offer their time and support to help others develop their skills.
Three online hoopers were particularly inspiring. I watched their videos to help improve my skills and I truly feel that it is worth mentioning Safire, OriginalChemigals and Caroleeena. Between the many videos these ladies have on Youtube, anyone can become familiar with the various hoop dance moves that they have seen others do.
In the Hula Hooping Tutorial section of the website, I use many of their videos as examples. They are both very well spoken and able to break down a move in different ways so that if you have a different learning style, they likely cover it.
So thank you to Caroleeena, OriginalChemigals and Safire!!
I want to also acknowledge them by providing their Youtube channels and where they can be found online.
Caroleena – Youtube
Safire – Youtube – And her Hoopcity website (kind of like facebook for hoopers… do visit!)
OriginalChemigals – YoutubeI also wanted to give a quick update about the website. I am working hard on the Tutorial section. I started here because I’m having a beautiful lazy weekend with my family and we’re all still in our pjs. Taking photos for the DIY section just seems to darn ambitious for me today! lol So I’m having a great time revisiting videos that have personally helped me, as well as discovering new videos that are just as inspiring.
Cheers and happy Sunday!
